The year 2023 unfurled a new chapter in the Express Entry system saga, marked by a dynamic pattern of draws and a surge in invitations. Express Entry draws, a blend of all-program, Provincial Nominee Program (PNP)-only, and Federal Skilled Workers (FSW)-only, unfolded every two weeks, occasionally even more frequently.
March 2023 stood out, with over 21,000 candidates receiving invitations in a month, the second-highest ever.
Category-Based Selection
May 2023 witnessed a revolutionary shift with the introduction of six new categories for Express Entry draws. These categories, aligning with the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act changes, target specific attributes rather than relying solely on the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score. From healthcare to French proficiency, candidates with unique skills find their path to Canada streamlined.
The Express Entry Review in 2023 showcased diversity in type, including all-program draws, PNP-only draws, FSW-only draws, and category-based selection draws.

- Some soared high with scores between 501-600.
- Notably, a group achieved scores between 900 and 1,200, primarily candidates with Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) nominations, a testament to the program’s significance.

Express Entry draws in the first half of 2023 maintained a predictable frequency, occurring every two weeks. However, the introduction of category-based draws added an element of surprise. The latter half of the year witnessed a trend of concentrated draws, particularly in December, underscoring the adaptability of the system.
