Find your National Occupation Classification (NOC)

National Occupational Classification, or NOC, is a systematic taxonomy of all occupations in the Canadian labour market. In order to gather, analyze, and disseminate occupational data for labour market information and employment-related programs, the revised system offers a systematic classification structure. NOC also classifies the entire range of occupational activity in Canada.

For the delivery of programs and services such as employment fairness, skills development, occupational forecasting, labour supply and demand analysis, and labour market and career intelligence, occupational information is significant.

How to find your NOC code and skill level?

  2. Technical Jobs and skilled trades requiring 2 years’ college or apprenticeship training are covered by TEER 2.
  3. TEER 3 calls for those who have 2 or less than 2 years of apprenticeship training or college in any technical jobs or skilled trades.
  4. TEER 4 covers intermediate positions where applicants must have completed high school and are likely to undergo on-the-job training.
  5. TEER 5 consists of jobs that require no academic credentials but has short-term work experience.

What is the use of the National Occupational Classification?

NOC is utilized for finding employment and immigration purposes. Also, the NOC code is used for posting positions on government job boards like job banks. Thus by using NOC codes, you can easily search for jobs in Canada.

You can decide which NOC to use for Canadian immigration. After that, you can get advice from an immigration expert to select the right NOC code as per your job experience and educational qualifications.

Significance of National Occupational Classification (NOC) in Canada

  1. To assess the skill gap in Canada, the NOC aids in the hiring process for both employers and the Canadian government;
  2. The NOC system determines the ideal candidate based on the job requirements.
  3. Profession/job information is available only via the NOC system. NOC data Includes the occupation’s title, duties, and job description.
  4. NOC also assists in immigration, without a NOC code, you cannot apply for other Canadian immigration programs.
  5. Based on the type and amount of training, the NOC skill level identifies the occupation and categorizes it.
