Immigration Announcement
Visitors can now apply for work permits when they are in Canada
International visitors living in Canada at the moment will now be allowed to apply for a work permit without being compelled to leave the country. As long as they have a job offer, they will be able to utilize this new policy to their advantage.
A media release by the Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) said that the new policy would be enforced immediately. Temporary residents staying in Canada with a valid job offer will benefit from this allowance in the time of the pandemic. It is important to remember that the rule will not be applicable to people who arrive in Canada as a visitor after August 24.
What was the rule before?
Prior to the implementation of the policy, temporary residents wishing to apply for work permits would need to submit an application for the initial work permits before they come to Canada. In case they already held visitor status when they received the work permit approval, they would have to leave Canada and return, so as to activate the permit.
How will the policy be helpful?
IRCC says that the new temporary policy will be advantageous for Canadian employers and temporary residents with job offers. The visitors who satisfy all the eligibility criteria can apply for the new temporary immigration policy. Business visitors, Super Visa holders, and people who arrived in Canada via a Global Skills Strategy work permit exemption can go ahead with their application process. A good lawyer will help your employer and you with the work permit process.
Canadian employers who want to hire foreign workers will appreciate this policy. This is especially helpful now because of the ongoing labor shortages caused by the pandemic. IRCC has announced that work permit applicants should contact them via their web form if they wish to apply for work authorization.
