Canada Invites 1,391 PNP Candidates in Latest Express Entry Draw
In its ongoing effort to meet immigration targets and address regional labor market needs, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has conducted its fourth Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) draw of the year under the Express Entry system. The draw, held on July 16, 2024, saw 1,391 candidates receive Invitations to Apply (ITAs) for permanent residence, marking another significant step in Canada’s immigration process.
This latest draw, the 303rd in the Express Entry system’s history, specifically targeted candidates who had received a provincial nomination. The minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score for this round was 670 points, a notable decrease of 69 points compared to the previous PNP-targeted draw held just four days earlier on July 12, 2024.
The lower CRS score threshold in this draw is a welcome development for many Express Entry candidates, potentially widening the pool of eligible applicants. However, it’s important to note that PNP-targeted draws typically have higher score requirements due to the additional 600 points awarded to candidates who receive a provincial nomination.
IRCC implemented a tie-breaking rule for this draw, set at May 04, 2024, at 13:27:31 UTC. This means that candidates who had the minimum score of 670 and entered the Express Entry pool before this date and time were included in the invitation round.
“The frequent PNP draws we’re seeing this year underscore the importance of provincial nominations in Canada’s overall immigration strategy,” explains immigration consultant Sarah Thompson. “These draws allow provinces to address their specific labor market needs while giving candidates with lower CRS scores a chance at receiving an ITA.”
As of the draw date, there were 216,457 profiles registered in the Express Entry pool, highlighting the continued strong interest in Canadian immigration despite global challenges. This substantial pool of candidates ensures that provinces have a diverse range of skilled individuals to choose from when making their nominations.
The Express Entry system, which manages applications for three of Canada’s main economic immigration programs – the Federal Skilled Worker Program, the Federal Skilled Trades Program, and the Canadian Experience Class – has been a cornerstone of Canada’s immigration policy since its introduction in 2015.
So far in 2024, Canada has issued a total of 54,515 invitations through regular Express Entry draws. This number demonstrates the country’s commitment to welcoming skilled immigrants as part of its economic recovery and growth strategy.
For prospective immigrants, these frequent draws – especially those targeting PNP candidates – offer multiple pathways to Canadian permanent residence.
“Candidates who may not meet the CRS cut-off for federal draws can significantly boost their chances by securing a provincial nomination,” Thompson adds.
The Provincial Nominee Program has become an increasingly important component of Canada’s immigration system, allowing provinces and territories to nominate individuals who have the skills and experience to contribute to their local economies. Each province has its own streams and criteria for nominations, often aligned with specific labor market needs or strategic economic sectors.
As Canada continues to navigate post-pandemic economic recovery, the role of immigration in addressing labor shortages and fostering economic growth remains crucial. The regular occurrence of Express Entry draws, including those targeting PNP candidates, reflects this ongoing commitment.
For those in the Express Entry pool or considering entering it, this latest draw serves as a reminder of the dynamic nature of the system. Candidates are encouraged to keep their profiles updated and to explore provincial nomination options that may align with their skills and experience.
As we move through 2024, it’s clear that Canada’s doors remain open to skilled immigrants. With each draw, the country moves closer to its immigration targets, bringing in diverse talent to contribute to its multicultural society and growing economy.
Prospective candidates and those already in the Express Entry pool should stay informed about future draws and any potential changes to immigration policies. As always, the landscape of Canadian immigration continues to evolve, presenting both challenges and opportunities for those dreaming of making Canada their new home.
