Quebec Invited Over 1,000 Skilled Workers

The Quebec Ministry of Immigration, Francisation, and Integration (MIFI) recently conducted its second draw of 2024 through the Arrima portal, inviting 1,034 candidates to apply for permanent residency under the Regular Skilled Worker Program (RSWP). This is a positive sign for skilled individuals seeking to immigrate to Quebec and build a new life in Canada.

Who Got Invited?

To be eligible for this draw, candidates had to meet specific criteria:

  • French Language Proficiency: They needed to demonstrate a level 7 (or higher) oral proficiency in French according to the Échelle québécoise des niveaux de compétence en français (Quebec’s official French proficiency scale).
  • Minimum Points Requirement: They required a score of at least 613 points based on Quebec’s points system, which evaluates factors like education, work experience, age, and language skills.
  • Job Offer Requirement: They had to possess a valid job offer outside the Communauté métropolitaine de Montréal (CMM), which includes the greater Montreal area. This aligns with Quebec’s strategy to encourage skilled workers to settle in other parts of the province.

Understanding Quebec’s Immigration Process

Quebec’s immigration process involves two key stages

  • Expression of Interest (EOI): Candidates interested in immigrating to Quebec must first create an EOI profile on the Arrima platform. This profile details their work experience, education, language skills, and other relevant information. Based on this information, they are assigned a score within Quebec’s points system.
  • Selection Process: MIFI conducts draws from the pool of EOI profiles regularly, typically once a month. Candidates with profiles that best match Quebec’s labor market needs and score the highest points receive invitations to apply for permanent residency.
