Immigration Announcement
Hong Kong Residents Will Find It Easier To Move To Canada Soon
Canada is slowly establishing a reputation of being one of the most immigrant-friendly countries in the world. It is making immigration easier for international students, one step at a time.
Hong Kong residents will soon benefit from Canada’s immigration motives. Reportedly, the country is planning to introduce two new immigration pathways that will help candidates from Hong Kong make their way into the country.
Marco Mendicino, the Immigration Minister of Canada, announced these intentions on November 12 and it seems like the measures will soon be implemented. Moreover, Canada is also going to provide additional help to asylum claimants.
Why are these initiatives necessary?
According to Mendicino, Canada is currently trying to build up the 2021-2023 Immigration Levels Plan. They want to take all the necessary steps to meet the goals they have set for themselves. Through this new pathway, Canada is also trying to provide Hong Kong residents with an option to move to Canada if they so wish.
The Chinese government established the national security law in Hong Kong back in June and that has proved to be an obstacle for the immigration-seeking residents. This law violates basic rights and freedoms, preventing many people from pursuing their moving plans.
What else?
IRCC is going to give a new open work permit to graduates from Hong Kong. It will be valid for three years, and the work experience they gain during this will be counted when they apply for permanent residence later on. There are certain eligibility requirements for this permit, and you should look into them once IRCC actually launches this program. The new permanent residence pathways will be officially launched in 2021.
Canada is also going to expedite the processing of study or work permits for any young candidates from Hong Kong.
