Canada Welcomes Nearly 300,000 Ukrainians Under CUAET Program
In a heartening display of international solidarity, Canada has welcomed close to 300,000 Ukrainian nationals since the launch of the Canada-Ukraine Authorization for Emergency Travel (CUAET) program in March 2022. The initiative, designed to offer temporary refuge to those fleeing the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, has seen an overwhelming response.
Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) released an update on June 3, 2024, detailing the program’s progress. According to the report, IRCC has received a staggering 1,189,320 applications under CUAET. Of these, 962,612 have been approved, showcasing Canada’s commitment to providing a safe haven for those in need.
The CUAET program, which allowed Ukrainians to apply for visitor visas outside Canada until July 15, 2023, has facilitated the arrival of 298,128 Ukrainian nationals between March 17, 2022, and April 1, 2024. This figure underscores the scale of the humanitarian crisis and Canada’s significant role in offering support.
Canada’s response to the Ukrainian crisis has been lauded globally. The CUAET program not only provides temporary residence but also allows Ukrainians to work and study in Canada, easing their transition during these challenging times.
As the conflict in Ukraine continues, Canada’s open-door policy serves as a beacon of hope, demonstrating that in times of crisis, compassion knows no borders.
