After setting records in 1911, 1913, and 2018, Canada has again exceeded the Federal government’s target.

The target set by the Immigration Level Plan for immigration candidates in Canada for 2019-2021 was 330,800, but an additional 10,000 candidates were granted residency. Apart from this record-breaking pace, the target goal to welcome more candidates under the economic class is complete as well. About 58 percent from economic class, 27 percent through the family sponsorships, and the rest 15 percent of candidates from refugee classes make the total new coming population.

Accounting for 86,000 or 25 percent of all the new coming candidates who got permanent residency in 2019, India secured the first position in the list of candidate sources. Following India was China, with 9 percent of the total population. Far behind is the Philippines with 8 percent. There were around 6000 candidates, each from Nigeria, the United States of America, Pakistan, Syria, Iran, Korea, and Eritrea.

When combined, 62 percent of the newcomers had settled in the four largest cities of Canada, Calgary, Montreal, Toronto, and Vancouver.

The number of immigrants settling down in Quebec has partially fallen for the past two years. In contrast, British Columbia, Alberta, and Atlantic Canada have substantially shown an increased growth rate in the past two years.

From the 341,000 candidates, 45 percent of them have significantly settled in Ontario, 35 percent in the Greater Toronto Area, and the rest in British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, Yukon, New Brunswick, and some other provinces.

Since the entire immigration level plan of 2019-2021 is complete in 2019, the federal government of Canada might introduce an additional idea for the year 2020. The target of 2020 is flexible and can range up to 3,60,000 candidates.
