India happens to be the leading source country of immigrants and foreign students for Canada. The last few months have posed many restrictions on prospective immigrants from India. Canada’s border closure, coupled with India’s lingering struggle against the coronavirus, has kept many Indians from making the trip.
If you are one of them and you simply cannot be patient anymore, there is good news for you. The Government of Canada made an announcement stating that the Visa Application Centres or VACs located in India will begin operating again from November 20, 2020.
The VACs are set to prioritize family class applicants and international students who have been detained for such a long time. Candidates will be able to set up biometrics appointments in Mumbai, Chandigarh, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, and Jalandhar. It goes without saying that the VACs are going to follow all safety measures and limit the number of appointments in a day.
Why was this measure necessary?
On October 20, Canada announced that international students have been made exempt from their travel restrictions. However, many Indian students still could not board their flights because they had not submitted their biometric information yet. Many skilled worker immigrants and family class applicants also faced the same problem.
Now, there is nothing to worry about because they will be able to submit their biometrics in the VACs, secure their permit, and then continue on their journey. Biometrics are absolutely essential for finishing the immigration application process.
If you are looking forward to taking advantage of this situation, check your email. IRCC will send all the necessary instructions directly to virtual mailboxes of candidates who already have a Biometrics Instruction Letter.
