Alberta Reveals PNP Nomination Limits and Continues Inviting Healthcare Workers

In an effort to streamline its immigration program and address critical labor shortages, the government of Alberta has announced its Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) nomination certificate limits for the year 2024 and continued its efforts to attract healthcare professionals through targeted invitations.

On May 22, 2024, Alberta published an update on the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) nomination certificate limits. For the current year, the province has an allocation of 9,750 nominations, the same as the previous year’s allocation. In 2023, the AAIP issued a total of 10,029 nomination certificates, including 279 under a federal buffer for Express Entry candidates.

The announcement of the nomination certificate limits provides clarity and transparency to prospective immigrants, enabling them to plan and prepare their applications accordingly. By adhering to these limits, Alberta aims to maintain a balanced and sustainable immigration program that aligns with the province’s economic needs and growth objectives.

In addition to the nomination certificate limits, Alberta has continued its efforts to address labor shortages in the healthcare sector. On May 1, 2024, the AAIP issued invitations to 40 candidates under the Dedicated Healthcare Pathway. This targeted stream is designed to attract healthcare professionals with in-demand skills and qualifications to support Alberta’s healthcare system. In this draw, the minimum score required for an invitation was 305 points.

Since the beginning of 2024, Alberta has invited a total of 499 candidates through the AAIP Express Entry streams, further demonstrating the province’s commitment to attracting skilled and talented individuals from around the world.

By implementing nomination certificate limits and strategically inviting healthcare workers, Alberta is taking proactive steps to manage immigration flows while addressing critical labor market needs. This balanced approach not only supports economic growth but also ensures the sustainability of essential public services, such as healthcare, for the benefit of all Albertans.

As the province continues to navigate the challenges of a rapidly evolving labor market, its immigration policies and programs remain flexible and responsive, adapting to the changing needs of Alberta’s industries and communities.
