Sudbury Continues Invitations Under Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot

The City of Greater Sudbury continues to leverage the Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot (RNIP) to attract skilled immigrants to the region. On May 16, 2024, the city held a new round of invitations, considering 34 candidates for potential nomination under the federal pilot program.

In this latest draw, Sudbury evaluated 19 applications through the Conventional Stream and 15 applications through the Limited Stream. The lowest score required for consideration was 100 points in the Conventional Stream and 170 points in the Limited Stream. All applicants met the eligibility criteria, possessing one eligible occupation and a job offer with a wage above $20 per hour.

The RNIP, launched by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), aims to attract and retain skilled immigrants to smaller communities across Canada. By participating in the pilot, Sudbury has been actively promoting economic growth and addressing labor market needs in the region.

Since the program’s inception, the City of Greater Sudbury has recommended around 840 individuals for permanent residence through the RNIP. This year alone, the city has issued a total of 450 invitations, showcasing its commitment to attracting and retaining skilled workers in various occupations.

The Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot has proven to be a valuable tool for communities like Sudbury, enabling them to address specific labor market needs and contribute to the economic development of the region. By facilitating the immigration of skilled workers, the pilot supports the growth of local businesses and industries, fostering a thriving and diverse community.

As the RNIP continues to evolve, Sudbury’s participation underscores the city’s recognition of the significant contributions that skilled immigrants can make to the local economy and community. By leveraging the pilot program, Sudbury is positioning itself as an attractive destination for skilled workers seeking new opportunities and a high quality of life in a vibrant northern Ontario community.
