Whistler is not your traditional Canadian town. It is a modern resort town that has risen in popularity over the last decade. Located in the Province of British Columbia on the southern Pacific Ranges of the Coast Mountains, Whistler provides an exquisite view. Since it is a resort town, not a lot of people decide to settle down there permanently. Having said that, Whistler has a constant population of more than 9900 plus during the off-season. The ski season sees a boom in the population, and the number of people rises to well over 40, 000 people. More than 2 million people pay a visit to Whistler every year, which goes to show how wonderful a place it is.

It would be a mistake to regard Whistler as nothing more than a resort town. It has a unique personality of its own, which is what attracts so many tourists. You can definitely visit Whistler during the winter and ski to your heart’s content, but you should also pay a visit to the town at least once during the summer. Not only will you have to face less of a crowd, but you will still be able to do fun activities like hiking, rock climbing, or mountain biking. The natural beauty of Whistler alone is worth a visit.

Whistler is known as one of the best resort destinations in the whole of North America. It has been nominated for multiple awards to that end. Whistler found its moment of glory during the 2010 Winter Olympics when it hosted most of the Nordic, alpine, luge, and bobsled events.

Public Transport:

You would be surprised to see just how efficient the Whistler transit system can be. The year-round public bus service will take through Whistler and also cover the distance between Whistler Village and Pemberton. This bus service will travel to most places in Whistle. Come spring, the buses come equipped with bicycle racks. Moreover, you can also avail of the free shuttle buses which travel between the ski resorts and the Whistler Village. There is also a free service between Lost Lake and the Village during the summer.

The Village is an interesting place as it is based on a pedestrian-only Village Stroll. You will be able to walk easily to the shops, restaurants and ski lifts. Since The Village Stroll is paved, you will not have to face the hassle of walking through the snow. 24-hour taxi services will take care of all your commute needs.

You will get to witness the Pemberton Valley Music Festival, the TELUS World Ski and Snowboard Festival, and even the Squamish Valley Music Festival when you are in Whistler.

Winters in Whistler tend to be cool and rather wet. On the other hand, the summers are dry but warm. The climate is pleasant all through the year if you are used to the cold. There are around 11 days that record temperatures more than 30 degrees Celsius and an average of 24 days which record a temperature fall below -10 degrees Celsius. The snowfall in Whistler is a sight to behold.

Advantages and Disadvantages:

In order to make a decision that you are satisfied with, you must consider both sides of the coin.

  • Whistler has some of the most amazing skiing and snowboarding resorts in all of North America.
  • You will find yourself surrounded by a diverse community of people who will welcome you with open arms.
  • Apart from innumerous winter activities the city also offers you some lovely summer outdoor activities to enjoy.
  • The public transport system is efficient, and you will be able to move from one place to another easily.
  • It is very close to Vancouver, which means that you can travel often.

  • The population drops when it is not the ski season.
  • Some of the job opportunities are limited to the ski season, which can be a problem if you are trying to establish a life there.

If you have an adventurous spirit, then Whistler is the place for you. However, you must ensure that you have a permanent job if you want to settle down there.
