Study in Canada
Where did Canada’s international students come from in 2020?

Canada has extended a welcome to 67,000 new international students in the first four months of 2020. They arrived from 156 different countries. The international student population has seen a boom in recent years because of Canada’s warmth towards foreigners.
The country had 640,000 international students in 2019. The foreign student population has increased almost three times in the last decade. International students love the prospect of enjoying Canada’s impressive quality of education, safety, diversity, affordability, employment opportunities, and multiple immigration pathways. Canada invites international students from about 175 countries every year at this moment.
2020 Trends:

Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has released new data that shows the immigration trends between January and April 2020. India is still the top source country for immigrants in Canada. The top 15 source countries in 2020 are:
- India
- China
- South Korea
- Vietnam
- Brazil
- Iran
- France
- Nigeria
- Colombia
- Japan
- Mexico
- Philippines

- United States
Effect of the pandemic:
Canada had to cut down on its international student intake during the first four months of 2020 because of the pandemic. While the country allowed in 95,000 new international students in the same period last year, the number fell to 67,000 this year.
