The Government of Canada immigration programs Global Strategy.

The Government of Canada recently celebrated the two-year anniversary of one of its most successful immigration programs, the Global Skills Strategy. This particular program has allowed the country to welcome almost 24,000 highly skilled foreign workers by granting the required visa.

This flagship Global Talent Stream has definitely helped Canada make up for its labor shortage, and it is an asset. With the help of the Global Talent Stream, Canadian employers are able to discover and get in touch with temporary foreign workers much quickly.

The only condition is that potential candidates must have work experience in any of the 13 occupational categories in the following industries:

  • Information Technology and Science
  • Technology
  • Engineering
  • Mathematics

Basically, this program favors those who are in the STEM category. The Global Talent Stream covers a variety of in-demand occupations like that of computer engineers, software engineers, software designers, web designers, computer programmers, and web developers. The Minister of Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship in Canada, Ahmed Hussen, has released a joint statement in which he admitted that Canada’s technology sector has always found it difficult to attract talent which will help the country upscale their businesses. In order to make up for this deficiency, the Government launched the Global Skills Strategy program.

According to Canada’s Information and Communication Technology Council (ICTC), there might be 216,000 job vacancies in Canada’s ICT sector by the year 2021. The Government of Canada has now made the Global Talent Stream permanent to keep the inflow of skilled talent flowing. The decision was favored by the Council of Canadian Innovators.

With the help of this stream, employers are able to submit a Labor Market Impact Assessment (LMIA), which eliminates any requirement of them having to prove that they tried to hire Canadians at first. As a result, the LMIA approval process is expedited.
