The coronavirus pandemic has put many immigrants and their families in danger of losing the opportunities that they have worked for all their lives. Since most countries had to impose travel restrictions after the coronavirus began to spread, many candidates who were ready to immigrate had to put their plans on hold. Even Canada introduced border restrictions, as a result of which many people failed to make their journey to Canada.

While Canada has managed to bring the coronavirus situation under control, the country is still choosing to take precautions and prioritize safety. Canada is exempting certain groups from the restrictions, but it might be a while before things come back to normal.

Current Situation

Candidates with expired COPRs were not given permission to go to Canada even prior to the pandemic. This situation has certainly not helped. The COVID-19 border restrictions led to documents expiring for many people. In order to provide a solution, IRCC introduced a web form for people with expired COPRs. The candidates who sign up will soon receive authorization letters soon that will let them travel.

The IRCC started sending out the authorization letters in September. However, they are far from catering to every frustrated candidate who wants to extend their COPR. Most people would prefer to have a specific timeline of travel so they can make plans accordingly.

Skilled workers from around the world are currently feeling abandoned by the Canadian government. They are lobbying for change because nobody has chosen to be in this situation. People are suffering for no fault for theirs, and the Canadian government should ideally take responsibility and try to fix the situation as soon as possible.
