Immigration Announcement
25,000 Syrians Spotlight the Canada Immigration in 14 weeks
Canada has always chosen to be warm and welcoming to immigrants from all over the world. The borders have always been open for immigrants from Syria. Canada’s generosity has come to light time and again when it comes to immigration.
What happened?
Back in 2015, Canada took the initiative to invite 25,000 Syrian refugees into the country. Ideally, they wanted to reach the goal in just a few months. What truly stood out was how the Canadian public embraced the decision. Achieving the goal was never going to be easy, but Justin Trudeau decided to place his faith in the effort.
His campaign publicized their wish of welcoming 25,000 Syrians by the end of 2015. However, he had to push back the deadline once he got the majority government. Canada finally managed to reach the goal on February 29, 2016. It took a lot of preparation to make the process smooth. IRCC had to work day and night to ensure that everything worked in sync.
Important Milestone
The Syrian refugee effort is now a part of Canadian history. Not only did Canada open its borders for Syrian refugees, but they also conducted the boat people operation to help these new people settle down. Canada’s efforts towards helping refugees have made it the only country to receive the Nansen Medal from the United Nations.
2020 marked the fifth anniversary of this initiative, and it is still clear how important the event is. Canada’s humanitarian take on immigration is worth appreciation. This just goes to show that Canada can attain their immigration goals if they can deal with the challenges efficiently and allocate the proper resources.
