Immigration Announcement
Ontario is currently accepting applications from internationally trained doctors

Due to the pandemic, Canada had to introduce a set of special measures that would place restrictions on immigration during this period. The purpose is to stop the spread of the virus. Even the Canadian provinces have decided to participate in this initiative. Ontario has announced that it will allow international medical graduates to be eligible for a 30-day certificate that will let them practice in Ontario.
How to apply
International medical graduates will be able to avail of this opportunity if they have already passed the medical exam that will allow them to practice medicine in Canada. Candidates who graduated from a medical school in the last two years will be allowed to apply for a temporary license, which will grant them permission to practice medicine in Ontario.
Moreover, the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario has given permission to candidates to apply for Supervised Short-Duration Certificates in case they have not yet secured a medical residency position in Canada. Once they procure these certificates, the international medical graduates will be able to practice medicine in Ontario for a period of 30 days. There is a possibility that they might even continue working after that if their temporary license receives approval for renewal.
The international medical graduates in the country will be eligible for the offer if they have:
- practiced full-time medicine in the last two years
- completed a degree in medicine from an accredited medical school
- proof of employment from any of the approved categories of facilities stated in the Medicine Act
The CPSO states that the confirmation of employment must be directly sent from the hospital. The process of issuing these certificates began last month. However, not a large number of doctors applied. If you are interested, you should send in your application as soon as possible.
