Newfoundland And Labrador Introduced Latest Immigration Pathway

Starting from January 2nd, Newfoundland and Labrador is beginning to accept applications for their first new program to be launched in 2021. All the Canadian provinces are aiming to boost their intake in the coming year in order to make up for the losses suffered due to the pandemic.

Newfoundland and Labrador decided to launch this new stream for eligible skilled workers who have professional experience in any of the province’s in-demand occupations as well as meritorious graduates from Memorial University.

Purpose of the new program:

Called the Priority Skills Newfoundland and Labrador, this immigration program aims to attract skilled, educated, and efficient newcomers who are experienced in certain specialized areas. The province needs to support areas such as technology and ocean sciences via external help because their demand has long surpassed the available training and job options.

The primary aim of the program is to provide a solution to the shortages in the provincial labor market. Postgraduate students of Masters or Doctorate degrees at Memorial University will be eligible for this program if they completed their education in the last three years.

The provincial government aims to invest back into Memorial University to increase training and education opportunities after attracting eligible newcomers. Skilled workers who have worked in any of the high-demand professions for a minimum of one year can also apply for this program.

The program wants to invite 2500 permanent residents every year by 2022 in accordance with the current guidelines. It will function as an EOI system which means that candidates will have to submit their Expression of Interest after which they might receive an invitation.
