New Manitoba draw

Since Canada is trying to increase the number of immigrants in the country, the provinces are also doing their part in granting provincial nomination to skilled candidates. In a draw that took place on 5th July, Manitoba distributed 354 invitations among candidates so they could apply for provincial nomination and try to obtain Canadian permanent residence.

These invitations, also called Letters of Advice to Apply (LAAs), were given to candidates under the following streams: Skilled Workers Overseas, Skilled Workers in Manitoba and International Education. The streams fall under the Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program. It is the MPNP which allows Manitoba the liberty to nominate foreign workers for citizenship. International graduates hailing from post-secondary institutions in Manitoba are also considered to be eligible for Canadian permanent residence.

Back in 2018, the MPNP was responsible for issuing a record number of nominations under a variety of immigration streams. Most of the nominations were granted to candidates who were classified under the skilled worker streams.
On 5th July, the Government of Manitoba distributed the LAAs among the three streams in the following manner:

  • Skilled Workers in Manitoba Stream: 85
  • Skilled Workers Overseas Stream: 248
  • International Education Stream: 21

According to the MPNP, 91 LAAs were given to candidates who had a valid profile under the federal Express Entry system.
The Express Entry system is the backbone of Canadian immigration and is responsible for bringing high-skilled foreign talent to the country.

The Express Entry system is in charge of the pool of candidates who are registered under Canada’s primary economic-class immigration programs, namely the Federal Skilled Worker Class, the Canadian Experience Class and the Federal Skilled Trades Class. The candidates who receive a provincial nomination have an additional 600 points added to their CRS score, cementing their chance of applying for permanent citizenship.
