In a groundbreaking move to bolster its healthcare workforce, the province of New Brunswick has extended a warm invitation to 140 internationally trained francophone nurses. Invited 140 International -Trained Francophone Nurses
Health Minister Bruce Fitch, speaking at a conference held at Villa Providence in Shediac on May 3, 2024, expressed his enthusiasm for the influx of international-trained nurses. Emphasizing the importance of Canada’s international recruitment missions in supporting the province’s healthcare recruitment strategy, Minister Fitch underscored the invaluable expertise and skills that internationally educated nurses bring to New Brunswick’s healthcare system.
The recruitment mission to Belgium and Morocco, organized exclusively for francophone nursing homes, marks a milestone in New Brunswick’s efforts to attract global talent. Modeled after a successful past mission to the Philippines, this initiative has garnered widespread participation from nursing homes, with 140 offers extended to prospective candidates. Notably, Villa Providence alone has welcomed 26 new employees, with additional recruits expected in the near future.

Since 2019, New Brunswick has welcomed 1,400 internationally trained nurses to its healthcare industry through immigration channels, signaling a concerted effort to diversify and strengthen the healthcare workforce. Minister Greg Turner highlighted the province’s focus on expanding recruitment activities in French-speaking countries.
Streamlined Credential Recognition
Recognizing the importance of expedited credential recognition, New Brunswick is working closely with the Nurses Association to facilitate the integration of new workers into the healthcare system. The association now recognizes credentials from approximately 14 countries, enabling internationally educated nurses to contribute to patient care while navigating the licensure process.
