Post-Graduation Work Permit in Canada

The Post Graduate Work Program (PGWP) is a program that offers foreign students in Canada a means of staying after completing a post-secondary degree program. The program intends to help them establishing and beginning a life and profession in the country. Any graduate from a Canadian DLI may participate in this program and receive an open work permit which is valid for three years, even if they do not already have a job offer from a Canadian business.

PGWP Application

Potential applicants can begin applying for a PGWP application the day after receiving their official transcript and letter of program completion. Post that, all international students seeking a PGWP have six months from this date to submit their application. The applicant’s initial duties in this application procedure largely revolve around collecting the following paperwork, which is required and listed on the website of the Canadian government.

  • A certificate, degree or diploma
  • A letter from your institution
  • A transcript from your school’s website.
Please note: IRCC may request additional documents also

Upon completion of this phase, the applicant will follow a different application process based on whether they are applying from within Canada or outside.
