Canadians unite after terrible Tehran plane crash

An airplane was shot down just outside Tehran recently, which led to the death of fifty-seven Canadians who were inside the plane. Not all the details about the crash were immediately available, and it took a while for the media to catch up. The latest information reveals that two missiles together took down the airplane named Boeing 737 that was en route to Kyiv. The 176 passengers on the plane killed in the crash. Iranians were the most represented nationality on the plane, and the Canadians came right after.

According to Justin Trudeau, 138 passengers were in the process of connecting to Canada. One wonders as to why on earth the airspace would be kept open and accessible to civilian aircraft considering that the tensions between Iran and the U.S have escalated in the last few weeks. We also have details about the victims of the tragedy. The Canadians who lost their lives belonged mainly to the six provinces of British Columbia, Manitoba, Nova Scotia, Alberta, Ontario, and Quebec. Pictures have emerged from the crash, which has made the event seem real and alarming.

The victims had no idea that they were going to lose their lives on that airplane, and they just happened to be unlucky. They had nothing to contribute to the conflict between the U.S. and Iran, and yet they suffered the most. A business owner and philanthropist by the name of Mohamad Fakih has begun a  fundraising campaign to provide some support to the victims’ families and cover funeral expenses along with unexpected costs.

John Tory, the mayor of Toronto, has said that “the Canadian thing to do” at the moment would be open our hearts and contribute monetarily as much as possible. No compensation will ever be enough for these families.
