Canada provides more study and work permit flexibility for candidates

Canada has established itself as one of the most immigrant-friendly countries in the world. Recently, the country introduced three new measures that will help prospective candidates to pursue study and work opportunities even in the backdrop of the pandemic.

These new rules will tremendously help individuals who dream of having a Canadian education and availing work opportunities in the country.

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has recently published a news release on the website where they mentioned the new measures that will impact Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) eligibility for foreign students who are enrolled in Canadian educational programs and attending classes online right now because of the coronavirus pandemic.

What should students do?

Students will now be allowed to study online until April 30, 2021, from their country. No time will be deducted from the duration of their PGWP as long as they complete 50% of their studies in Canada itself. The students who are enrolled in a program with a start date in May until September can complete their entire program overseas and still be considered eligible for a PGWP if their program spans 8-12 months.

If the start date of the program is between May and September this year, students will be allowed to study online until April 30, 2021. The students who manage to graduate from multiple eligible programs can combine the duration of their programs of study when submitting their application for a PGWP if they have completed 50% of their studies in Canada.

PGWP is an excellent option for people who want to study in Canada and benefit from it. If a student finishes an eligible program in any of the Canadian designated learning institutions, they will be able to secure a PGWP that will span up to three years. The final duration of the PGWP will vary based on the length of time the individual has spent studying in a Canadian DLI.
