Canada to boost its immigration programs

Canada is trying to boost its immigration programs and attract more permanent residents at the moment. A latest Express Entry draw created a record by issuing 3,600 invitations to potential candidates who want to apply for Canadian permanent residence. This was the largest number of invitations to be issued during a single draw since January of this year. The cut-off score for the draw that was held on 10th July was 460. This marked a decrease of two points as compared to the minimum score of 462, which was the requirement in the previous Express Entry draw that was held on 26th June.

This phenomenon shows that Canada has set higher admissions targets for itself during 2019 and 2020 under the three Federal High Skilled immigration programs. The Federal Skilled Trades Class, Canadian Experience Class, and Federal Skilled Worker Class are managed under the Express Entry system, and all interested candidates must register themselves in the pool. The Express Entry is also responsible for managing Canada’s Provincial Nominee Program that has also increased admission targets for the upcoming two years.

The candidates in the Express Entry pool are given scores under the Comprehensive Ranking System and then ranked accordingly. The CRS system uses parameters like age, education, work experience, and proficiency in languages to determine the score of each candidate. The candidates who secure the highest ranks are then given invitations through which they can apply for Canadian permanent residence.

After this draw, the Express Entry candidates with ITAs will have 60 days to complete their application for Canadian permanent residence. The Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) usually takes six months to complete the processing of Express Entry applications. With this draw, IRCC has given out 45,400 ITAs just in 2019.
