British Columbia, Ontario, Manitoba, and Saskatchewan Issued Invitations for Provincial Immigration
Last week, the Canadian provinces of British Columbia, Ontario, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba have invited candidates to apply through their provincial immigration programs. Most Canadian provinces and territories (except Quebec and Nunavut) have their own provincial nomination programs.
Each year, 105,000 PRs are admitted through the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP). Since 1998, the annual number of PNP admissions has steadily increased. Both the federal and provincial governments see it as a valuable tool for promoting economic growth outside of urban areas.
Results of Provincial Immigration (9th to 16th December)
Ontario
On December 13, a total of 160 letters of interest got issued to candidates from the Express Entry French-speaking skilled worker stream. Candidates needed to have a Comprehensive Ranking System score between the range of 341-490. This draw was aimed at inviting candidates with work experience as mentioned in National Occupational Classification codes (NOCs).
To qualify under the stream, the candidates must be in the pool for the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) or Canadian Experience Class (CEC). In addition, they must know how to read, write, and speak French at a CLB level of 7 or beyond. Also, they must be able to understand, read, write and speak English at a CLB level of 6 or higher.
British Columbia
Over 212 candidates applied for a provincial nomination in British Columbia on 13 December. The province issued invitations to 180 candidates in a general draw that included tech occupations. The invitations were also issued to the candidates in the Skilled Worker and International Graduate categories, including Express Entry candidates. Entry-level and semi-skilled candidates were also invited by the province.
Candidates in the general draw had to achieve a minimum SIRS score between 80-104. SIRS is essentially the same as the Express Entry Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS), except that it only applies to British Columbia’s Provincial Nominee Program (PNP).
British Columbia also held invitation rounds for candidates working in the following occupations;
- A minimum of 60 points must be achieved by 19 early childhood educators and assistants (NOC 4214);
- 13 healthcare workers with at least 60 points in the Skilled Worker, International Graduate, including Express Entry category;
- At least 60-point scores for other priority occupations
Manitoba
As part of the Manitoba Provincial Nomination Program, the province invited 1,030 candidates through the Skilled Worker Overseas stream. To qualify, candidates must meet a baseline of requirements specific to their program. A total of 656 applicants had profiles in Express Entry who also received an Expression of Interest (EOI).
Saskatchewan
As of December 15, Saskatchewan invited 348 candidates via the Express Entry and 285 under the Occupation-In-Demand stream. This brought a total of 633 invitations with a required score of 82. The province also invited two candidates from Ukraine with a score of 62.
