Federal Skilled Workers Program

The news of Federal Skilled Workers Program is resuming in early July is certainly a piece of good news for many who were waiting since December 2020 to immigrate to Canada through this pathway. In the recent announcement made by the Immigration Minister of Canada, Sean Fraser that FSWP, CEC, and FSTP will be resumed and Canada is excited to welcome the newcomers.

FSWP is one of the most attractive immigration pathways as applicants can stand eligible with no Canadian work experience and a job offer. This program is managed by the Express Entry system and candidates who are eligible for Federal Skilled Workers Program get a CRS (Comprehensive Ranking System) score. IRCC holds Express Entry draw every two weeks and invites the highest-scoring applicants for Canadian immigration.

Here’s a step-by-step guide on how you can apply for permanent residency through FSWP:

Step 1: FSWP’s Eligibility Criteria

To stand eligible under FSWP, a candidate must meet the minimum requirement for work experience, language proficiency, and education. One also needs to score at least 67 under the program’s 100-point grid.

  • A candidate must have at least 1-year of continuous full-time or equivalent paid work experience in the last 10 years in a skilled occupation classified under the National Occupational Classification (NOC)
  • A Candidate must have a validated language ability equivalent to Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 7 in English or French
  • A candidate must have an educational degree equivalent to a Canadian educational credential (certificate, diploma, or degree) or a foreign credential and Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) report.
  • A candidate must score at least 67 points on IRCC’s six immigration selection factors.

Step 2: Submit your Express Entry Profile on IRCC’s Website

Visit the IRCC’s official website, create an account and follow the instructions, these instructions will help you with the creation of the profile. An applicant has 60-days to complete and submit an Express Entry Profile. In case you missed the due date, you will have to start the whole process again. After the submission, IRCC will evaluate your profile and suggest which Express entry program you’re eligible for. If you qualify for the Federal Skilled Workers Program, IRCC will put you in the Express Entry pool with other candidates and give you a score based on factors like work experience, education, age, and language proficiency.

Step 3: Check for an ITA (Invitation to Apply)

The completion of an online Express Entry profile does not guarantee that you will be invited to apply for permanent residency. One is required to have a score that is high enough to meet the minimum requirement given in the Express Entry draw. While you’re in the pool get ready for IRCC to send you an ITA. If you get selected, you will have 60 days to submit a complete application.

Step 4: If you receive an ITA, Apply for PR

If you get an ITA, IRCC will inform you which program you have been shortlisted for and what to do next. The system invites applicants to apply under one of the Express Entry-managed programs.

You will have to show proof of the information you have submitted in your Express Entry profile to the IRCC. During the assessment, if the information you provided is false, they will refuse your application, find you inadmissible, or bar you from applying for immigration for five years.

It is mandatory to respond to the ITA within 60 days else IRCC will drop your profile from the Express Entry pool.
