Vernon B.C. introduces the Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot

Temporary foreign workers and newly accepted immigrants in Canada will now be able to submit their applications for Canadian permanent residence in the small city of Vernon, British Columbia. Vernon has now become the fourth community in the country to begin the process of accepting applications via the Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot. The initiative was taken on 1st February and has been welcomed warmly. This program will remain open until February 2022. In total, the communities that are also accepting applications under this pilot are:

  • Brandon, Manitoba
  • Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario
  • Altona/Rhineland, Manitoba
  • Vernon, B.C.

The aim of this pilot is to establish a stronger connection between foreign workers and Canadian employers belong to communities that are currently facing labor shortages. The candidates will have to show that they have an eligible job offer, which would allow them to occupy a full-time permanent position in any of the participating communities.

11 communities are supposed to participate in this pilot but the other communities have not begun their process of accepting applications as of now. These include:

  • North Bay, Ontario
  • Thunder Bay, Ontario
  • Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan
  • Sudbury, Ontario
  • Timmins, Ontario
  • Claresholm, Alberta
  • West Kootenay, British Columbia

If candidates are looking to qualify for the RNIP in the town of Vernon, they will have to satisfy all the necessary federal eligibility requirements. Vernon wants the candidates to score a level five or higher in English of French under the Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) system. They should also fill the details on their profile available on the city’s webpage.

All the candidates will be assigned individual ranks on the basis of Vernon’s Comprehensive Ranking System (VCRS). The score is evaluated after taking human capital factors into consideration.
