How to Increase your CELPIP Score

As a newcomer in Canada, English proficiency is one of the key abilities one needs to excel to thrive in a country like Canada. In most Canadian provinces, English is the primary language and one needs at least intermediate proficiency to adapt to the Canadian culture. While applying for Canadian PR, one needs to take either CELPIP or ILETS to prove their English language proficiency. Both the tests are approved by IRCC and here, we will help you with essential tips on how to increase your CELPIP score and increase your odds of successful immigration to Canada.

What is CELPIP?

Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program (CELPIP) is one of the two approved English language tests that aspiring newcomers to Canada must take. A good CELPIP score helps you with more points for the PR application. CELPIP is accepted by the following:

  1. IRCC for Express Entry programs such as the Federal Skilled Workers Program, Federal Skilled Trades Program, and Canadian Experience Class (CEC), start-up visas, and most Provincial Nominee Programs
  2. Canadian universities, colleges, and vocational programs for admission into study programs in Canada
  3. Several professional organizations for certification and licensing

Top tips to increase your CELPIP score

  1. Get acquainted with the test format and types of questions. This will help you reduce anxiety and focus on the task ahead.
  2. Practice is the key. Take practice tests in an environment that closely resembles the actual test, under timed conditions.
  3. Make sure to thoroughly practice reading, listening, and writing with digital sample tests or other exercises. You must be comfortable using a desktop or laptop, as well as typing under time constraints.
  4. If you feel a need then enroll in preparatory courses, online study programs, or webinars that can assist you in CELPIP prep.
  5. Always read the complete instructions before attempting questions. Pause and carefully read the question, and make sure you understand what you’re being asked before answering.
  6. Never leave any questions unanswered. Remember there is no negative marking for incorrect answers.
  7. In the writing and speaking section, make sure to express yourself the best as there are no incorrect answers in these sections.
