New immigration programs will benefit refugees with healthcare professions

The pandemic presented unprecedented obstacles for immigration seekers. Canada, being one of the most immigrant-friendly countries in the world, has been trying to accommodate immigrants and their troubles in as many ways as possible but it will be a while before things can return to normal.

The Immigration Minister of Canada, Marco Mendicino, had announced a few months back that candidates will soon have access to two new temporary immigration programs. The time has finally come and eligible candidates should begin looking into these programs without wasting a second. They are specialized programs that are a part of Canada’s coronavirus measures and are a necessary addition.

Requirements and eligibility

Refugee claimants who served in the healthcare industry during the pandemic will be eligible to apply for permanent residence under these two new programs. One of them is specifically for refugees in Quebec while the other one will target the refugees belonging to other provinces. Health service providers such as nurses, service aides, and orderlies will be considered eligible for the programs.

Common-law partners or spouses of refugee claimants who suffered untimely deaths because of coronavirus while they were in Canada can also apply under these programs if they came to Canada before August 14, 2020.

The applicants must fulfill all the admissibility requirements in order to have shot at becoming a permanent resident. They are free to involve their family members in their PR application as well as long as everyone is in Canada at the time. The applications are opening on December 14 and the deadline is until August 31, 2021.

If you feel that you satisfy all the requirements, you should start your research immediately. Applications must be sent to the IRCC website directly. Candidates from Quebec will also have to send their applications to IRCC initially after which the province will take over.
