Canadian Schools Will Reopen For International Students

Canada has been trying to make things easier for international students from the beginning of the pandemic. Now that the situation is under control, Canada has decided to allow international students to arrive in the country and begin their studies.

Certain Designated Learning Institutions now have permission to welcome new international students as long as they have approved coronavirus readiness plans. They can start accepting new study permit holders.

What was the situation before?

Before this, the date of the issuance of the permit determined whether a student would be allowed into the country. But now, Designated Learning Institutions (DLIs) can accept international students even if they obtained the study permit late. DLIs refer to colleges, universities, and any other educational institutions that have government approval to welcome international students.

Before this new rule, the international students who received a valid study permit before March 18, 2020, were the only ones who could enter the country. Canada implemented the coronavirus travel restrictions back in March and has been strict about reducing the spread of the virus since then.

Coming to Canada as a student:

If you are planning to come to Canada as a student, you should fulfill any of these two requirements:

• Secure a valid study permit or a letter of introduction proving that you were approved for a study permit.
• Enroll in a designated learning institution (DLI) that has a COVID-19 readiness plan approved by its province or territory.

Your trip to Canada will be regarded as essential if you possess all the required documents and have your DLI on the approved list. Students must quarantine for two weeks after arriving in Canada. Your trip will not be regarded as essential if your study program is canceled for some reason.
