Express Entry Draw

Canada organized a recent Express Entry Draw on October 14 that ties for the position of the all-time biggest draw. A sum total of 4,500 invitations were distributed among Express Entry candidates having a minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of 471. The country has issued 82,850 ITAs until now in 2020, including this draw. The CRS requirement for this draw was the same as the earlier Express Entry draw organized on September 30.

Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has organized immigration draws fairly regularly, even amidst the pandemic. IRCC has been hosting draws of 4,200 every fortnight since September 2. This draw was the biggest to be organized since February.

Details of the express entry draw

The Express Entry system is the primary immigration application management system in Canada. It caters to the three federal economic-class programs, namely the Federal Skilled Trades Program, the Federal Skilled Worker Program, and the Canadian Experience Class.

Candidates belonging to these programs and some Provincial Nominee Programs (PNPs) are assigned a score based on CRS. The points are calculated on the basis of certain human capital factors like age, work experience, education, and language fluency. Candidates who manage to secure the highest scores are eligible for an Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residence in Canada during an Express Entry invitation round. During the October 14 draw, Canada issued invitations to the top 4,500 candidates, and they will now be able to apply for permanent residence.

When there is a tie between candidates, IRCC uses the tie-breaking rule. For the October 14 draw, candidates with a CRS score of 471 or more must have submitted their Express Entry profile prior to September 1, 2020, at 12:11:23 UTC in order to be considered eligible for an invitation.
