best quality of life in 2020

Canada’s quality of life has improved dramatically over the years because of its security, political stability, and well-developed public health system. The country has emerged as the holder of the first position of the Best Countries 2020 list, and it is well-deserved.

This is the fifth time in a row that Canada has been voted as the top country for quality of life by people around the world. 73 countries were surveyed, and Canada received the first rank for being overall for being a politically stable country. Other reasons that contributed to Canada’s success are having an excellent job market and an effective public education system. The public health system practiced by Canada has emerged to be highly popular among Canadians and immigrants alike. Global citizens allowed Canada to rise up through the ranks because of these four factors.

The 2020 Best Countries survey was conducted by U.S. News & World Report. The rankings were determined by public voting. A sum total of 20,548 people from across 36 countries were a part of their survey, and their views on 73 countries were taken into consideration when evaluating the countries. Countries were examined and assessed in weighted categories to find out the overall score. The nine different categories were:

  • Quality of Life
  • Citizenship
  • Cultural Influence
  • Entrepreneurship
  • Adventure
  • Heritage
  • Open for Business
  • Power
  • Movers

Canada occupied the second place in total. It was surpassed by Switzerland in the overall category even though Switzerland failed to top in any one category. Canada came second to Sweden in the “Citizenship” category. In the “Open for Business” category, Luxembourg and Switzerland scored more than Canada.

Canada scored high in this category because it scored zero for ‘perceived level of corruption’ and marks for ‘transparent government.’
