British Columbia Organizes New Tech Pilot Draw In 2021

The Tech Pilot, operative in the province of British Columbia, started back in 2017. It is ideal for tech workers who want to become permanent residents in the province. The pilot is meant to provide a fast-tracked immigration path to permanent residence for international workers who already have an offer in any of the 29 eligible professions listed by British Columbia.

According to the British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program or BC PNP, the Tech Pilot is meant to attract skilled workers who can benefit the technology sector of the province. The in-demand tech professions rely on immigration to fill up the roles.

New draw

On January 12, British Columbia invited 80 eligible candidates to submit their applications for a provincial nomination. It was the province’s second draw of the new year. British Columbia invited candidates with job offers in the technology sector are given invitations to apply for a nomination via weekly draws.

British Columbia targeted the International Graduate and Skilled Worker subcategories. Candidates from the Express Entry B.C. and Skills Immigration streams were chosen in the draw. The minimum provincial score required to secure an invitation was 80.

The Express Entry candidates who are successful in getting provincial nominations will receive an extra 600 points added to their CRS scores. The BC PNP usually takes advantage of the Skills Immigration Registration System or SIRS to assign points to a candidate. A number of factors like education and work experience are taken into account when evaluating the score.
