Alberta Hits Immigration Targets for Key Streams, Bolstering Workforce

In a significant stride towards addressing its workforce needs, the province of Alberta has reached the application targets for three crucial immigration streams: the Alberta Opportunity Stream (AOS), Accelerated Tech Pathway, and Tourism and Hospitality Stream. This achievement underscores Alberta’s commitment to attracting skilled talent and bolstering its labor market.

On June 11, 2024, the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program (AAIP) commenced accepting applications under the new rules and swiftly reached the targeted number of applications for these key streams. For the 2024 cycle, the Government of Alberta has set ambitious goals, aiming to nominate 5,393 applications under the AOS, 1,047 under the Accelerated Tech Pathway, and 660 applications under the Tourism and Hospitality Stream.

The swift attainment of these targets is a testament to the province’s appeal as a destination for skilled professionals and the efficacy of its immigration initiatives. To date, Alberta has nominated 4,337 candidates and approved 499 applications under the AAIP, demonstrating its proactive approach to addressing labor shortages across various sectors.

“Alberta’s economic growth hinges on our ability to attract and retain top talent,” remarked Immigration Minister. “By meeting these targets, we are positioning our province as a hub for skilled workers, driving innovation and fueling our diverse industries.”

The AAIP’s streamlined processes and targeted pathways have played a pivotal role in attracting candidates with the skills and expertise aligned with Alberta’s labor market needs. The Accelerated Tech Pathway caters to the burgeoning technology sector, while the Tourism and Hospitality Stream supports the province’s thriving tourism industry.

To maintain momentum, the AAIP will continue accepting applications on the following dates: July 9, August 13, September 10, October 8, November 5, and December 10. This ongoing effort ensures a steady influx of skilled professionals, contributing to Alberta’s economic vitality and fostering a diverse and dynamic workforce.
