Alberta Express Entry

Alberta has recently issued 401 invitations to Express Entry candidates who are looking to secure immigrant status. Candidates will be able to apply for a provincial nomination under the Canadian permanent residence program for the last two selection rounds. Details have been revealed by the province’s immigrant nominee program. The first selection round was held on 24th October and issued invitations to 372 candidates who already have a profile under the federal Express Entry system.

The Federal Express Entry system is responsible for managing the pool of candidates who can be classified under the three Federal High Skilled economic immigration categories in Canada. These include the Federal Skilled Trades Class, the Canadian Experience Class, and the Federal Skilled Worker Class.

Alberta belongs to an exclusive group of nine Canadian provinces that have a nominee program allowing them to select a fixed number of economic immigration candidates who can then be considered for Canadian permanent residence every year. All the provincial nominee programs have at least one stream granting them the permission to nominate candidates who match the individual economic requirements under the Express Entry pool.

Express Entry candidates who also secure a provincial nomination will get their hands on an extra 600 points, which will then be counted as part of their Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score. This effectively guarantees the candidates an invitation via which they can apply for Canadian permanent residence during a subsequent draw from the pool of Express Entry candidates.

The Express Entry candidates who were given invitations by Alberta during the 24th October draw had CRS scores that were as low as 300. The second draw was held on 30th October, and 29 invitations were distributed among candidates with CRS scores of 350 and up. By itself, a CRS score of 300 or 350 is not enough to receive the invitation to apply for Canadian permanent residence, but the additional 600 points give it the required boost.
