Canada plans to offer a second chance to PNP candidates who lost their livelihood due to coronavirus

Canada has tried to be supportive of immigrants even during the pandemic. They are implementing measures that will help immigrants stay afloat if they have been affected by the pandemic. In a recent move, some Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) applicants will be given time until 2021 to secure a new job and keep their nomination if they lost their job because of coronavirus.

Provincial and territorial jurisdictions will have to place their requests between September 17 and November 17. They will have to appeal for certain paper-based PNP applications to be placed on hold if the candidate lost their job due to the pandemic. All the eligible applications must have been submitted prior to March 18, 2020.

Process of application

Canada is going to keep these applications on hold until March 17, 2021, or until the candidate secures a new job offer and gets a confirmation from the province/territory that it supports the nomination still.

The provinces and territories must advise the applicant that Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) is going to keep their PNP application on hold. IRCC will have to get in touch with the applicant by email in order to give instructions about how to submit extra documents once the province or territory has made their request.

Applicants must also request that their application is on hold via the province providing the nomination. People who try to contact IRCC to place a request for the application to be put on hold will be told to contact the nominating province or territory.

Most Canadian provinces provide a PNP that can offers pathways to permanent residence. The unique immigration programs cater to business people, new graduates, skilled workers in particular occupations, semi-skilled workers, etc.
