Alberta issues invitations to candidates in the Express Entry category who have CRS scores of 350

Candidates belonging to the Express Entry category were given invitations allowing them to for a provincial nomination from Alberta on 9th January. Alberta issued 150 invitations, also known as the Notifications of Interest (NOIs), and distributed amongst candidates belonging to the federal Express Entry Pool. Even candidates with Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) scores as low as 350 were assigned NOIs during this particular draw. The Alberta Express Entry Stream grants permission to the Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP) to browse through the category and select eligible candidates who already have a profile under the federal Express Entry system.

The Express Entry system has become one of the most important components of the Canadian immigration system, and it is in charge of the group of candidates belonging to the three Canadian primary Economic-Class immigration programs such as the Federal Skilled Trades Class, the Federal Skilled Worker Class, and the Canadian Experience Class.

Express Entry candidates who are awarded a provincial nomination from Alberta receive an extra 600 points added to their CRS score. This almost guarantees them an invitation that would allow them to submit their applications for Canadian permanent residence and be a part of the next draw of the Express Entry pool. The cut-off score of 350 during the invitation round was significantly lesser than the cut-off scores recorded during previous draws that were conducted through the Express Entry system.

Candidates need not have a job offer or previous work experience in Alberta if they want to want to eligible for the draw. However, the AINP gives priority to candidates who have a job offer, work experience in the province, a degree from a post-secondary institution in Canada, or familial ties.
