Yukon Immigration Program

The Yukon is opening more doors for newcomers. The federal government has granted the territory 67 additional nominee allocations for 2025, bringing the total to 282 under the Yukon immigration program. This expansion is welcome news for employers, foreign workers, and local communities looking to strengthen the region’s economy and workforce.

The increase comes after strong advocacy from the Government of Yukon to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC). It ensures that more qualified candidates will now have the chance to secure nominations, and ultimately, permanent residency in Canada’s North.

Why This Expansion Matters

Yukon is one of Canada’s fastest-growing regions, but its small population means employers often face labour shortages. The Yukon immigration program helps fill these gaps by giving local businesses the ability to hire international talent while offering foreign workers a pathway to build their lives in the territory.

With the new allocation, employers can issue 80 additional invitations from the Expression of Interest (EOI) pool. Priority is being given to candidates who bring long-term value to the territory, including:

  • Foreign nationals who have lived and worked in Yukon for at least one year.
  • Yukon University graduates ready to join the workforce.
  • Francophone and French-speaking candidates, supporting bilingual growth.
  • Applicants with Temporary Measure Letters of Support issued by employers.

This focus ensures that those already connected to the territory have greater chances of success while also promoting cultural and linguistic diversity.

Special Allocations for Healthcare

To address urgent workforce needs, 10 spaces have been set aside for regulated healthcare positions until September 30, 2025. These include roles that are critical to Yukon’s health system, such as nurses and other licensed professionals. If not filled by that date, the spaces will be reassigned to other eligible candidates in the EOI pool, ensuring every available slot is used by year’s end.

This approach highlights the territory’s priority to support both the healthcare system and its communities while making sure no opportunities are left unused.

A Stronger Future for Employers and Workers

The move to an Expression of Interest model, similar to other provinces, allows Yukon to carefully select candidates based on specific priorities instead of operating on a first-come, first-serve basis. This method ensures a fairer and more effective process.

This boost means employers can meet staffing needs more effectively, while skilled workers find pathways to permanent residency and long-term community ties.

The new allocations reinforce Yukon’s role as a welcoming region for skilled newcomers. By prioritizing long-term residents, graduates, French speakers, and healthcare professionals, the territory is building a diverse and resilient workforce. As more employers and candidates benefit, the Yukon immigration program continues to strengthen both the economy and the social fabric of the North. For workers dreaming of permanent residency in Canada and for employers seeking talent, 2025 offers more opportunity than ever before.
