International Experience Canada

Canada’s youth work and travel program is buzzing with activity. Between July 1 and August 10, 2025, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) invited 10,357 candidates from around the world to apply for an International Experience Canada open work permit — opening the door to new adventures, careers, and cultural exchanges in Canada.

With 33,131 candidates still in the pool as of August 10, the competition remains strong. But for those who receive an Invitation to Apply (ITA), this is a golden opportunity to experience Canada’s diverse landscapes, vibrant cities, and booming job market.

What is the International Experience Canada (IEC) Program?

The IEC program is a popular work-travel initiative that allows young people from partner countries to live and work in Canada for up to two years. It operates through three categories:

  • Working Holiday – Open work permits to fund travel through temporary jobs.
  • Young Professionals – Employer-specific work permits for career building.
  • International Co-op (Internship) – Work permits for students gaining work experience.
