IRCC Conducts Second Healthcare-Targeted Express Entry Draw of 2024

On July 5, 2024, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) conducted its second healthcare-targeted Express Entry draw of the year. In this latest round, IRCC issued 3,750 Invitations to Apply (ITA) to candidates working in healthcare occupations. This draw, identified as round #301, set the cut-off score at 445 points, which is 23 points higher than the previous healthcare-targeted draw.

The tie-breaking rule for this round was May 07, 2024, at 21:27:04 UTC, meaning that candidates who had the minimum cut-off score of 445 points were invited only if they had submitted their Express Entry profile before this date and time.

This healthcare-focused draw reflects Canada’s ongoing commitment to addressing labor shortages in the critical healthcare sector. With an aging population and increasing demand for healthcare services, attracting skilled healthcare professionals remains a priority for Canada’s immigration strategy.

So far in 2024, Canada has issued a total of 49,924 ITAs through 23 Express Entry draws. The Express Entry system continues to be a key pathway for skilled immigrants to gain permanent residency in Canada, supporting the country’s economic growth and development.

The healthcare-targeted draws are part of a broader effort by the Canadian government to ensure that the healthcare system can meet current and future needs. By focusing on healthcare occupations, these draws aim to bring in professionals such as doctors, nurses, and other healthcare workers who can contribute to the well-being of Canadians and help alleviate the pressures on the healthcare system.

Candidates who received an ITA in this draw will now have the opportunity to submit their applications for permanent residency. Once submitted, IRCC will review the applications to ensure that all eligibility criteria are met. Successful applicants will then receive confirmation of their permanent resident status, allowing them to live and work in Canada permanently.

The continuous efforts by IRCC to hold occupation-specific draws highlight the flexibility and responsiveness of the Express Entry system. By targeting specific occupations, the government can address specific labor market needs more effectively, ensuring that the immigration system remains aligned with the country’s economic and social priorities.

As Canada continues to recover from the impacts of the global pandemic, the role of healthcare professionals is more critical than ever. The targeted draws not only help fill immediate gaps but also contribute to building a robust healthcare workforce capable of supporting Canada’s long-term health and prosperity.
