U.S. Set to Finally Reopen Land Border with Canada

After the onset of the pandemic, Canada and U.S. mutually agreed to keep their land border closed. The infection was spreading and neither country wanted to allow travelers to cross the border for non-essential reasons. Since then, the border has been partially opened for people traveling for emergency and work reasons but the U.S. still has not made it permissible for people to travel for non-essential reasons.

New Update

It seems that the situation is finally about to change because the U.S. plans to reopen the land border with Canada to non-essential travel on November 8. This means that fully vaccinated people from Canada can cross the border to enter the U.S. starting November 8.

Alejandro Mayorkas, the Secretary of Homeland Security, states that fully vaccinated travelers coming from Canada and Mexico will be allowed to enter the U.S. via both land and sea ports of entry. It is not a problem if the purpose of their travel is recreational. They can come as tourists or with the intention of meeting friends and family after a long time.

Fully vaccinated travelers will have to provide proof of their vaccination in order to enter the country in November. If they are not fully vaccinated, they will be denied entry. The U.S. will begin the second phase of the border opening in early January 2022. It will be mandatory for all essential and non-essential travelers to be fully vaccinated in order to enter the country.
