Quebec Immigration by 2022

If recent data is to be believed, then it seems that the immigration levels in Quebec may hit 52,500 by 2022. A number of new proposals have been introduced by the province’s government in June, which is why there could be an increase in the number of immigrants. This could mean there would be a rise of at least 10,500 newcomers to Quebec.

This year, the maximum value stood at 42,000, and the province is looking to improve the figures. The aim is to get back to the immigration level which was firmly in place until the election of Quebec’s Coalition Avenir Québec (CAQ) government back in October 2018.

The recent proposals which have been introduced will be used as the basis of upcoming public hearings on the topic of immigration. Quebec’s immigration numbers stood a little above 50000 between the years 2015 and 2018.

The temporary reduction in the number of immigrants was initiated by the CAQ late last year when they wanted to fulfill their election promise to solve certain concerns about how newcomers were not being able to integrate themselves in the majority of French-speaking Quebec. The proposals that were published by the province’s Immigration Ministry (MIDI) stated that the reduction had been an important step that allowed them to remodel the province’s integration services for immigrants.

According to the MIDI, the foundations have been laid for these reforms now. However, it will take a while before the actual programs and policies can be enacted and the goals achieved. That is the reason why Quebec is eyeing a slow rise in immigration levels. They aim to take in around 3,000 to 4,000 new admissions every year so that all immigrants can be provided with the tools that they would need to integrate themselves into society. 65 percent of these immigrants would be chosen on the basis of the province’s economic-class immigration programs.
