Prince Edward Island organises the largest PNP draw
The Canadian province of Prince Edward Island has publicly released information regarding two Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) draws that were held in August. One of them happened to be the largest draw to have ever been organized under this program.
Details of the draw
On August 11, Prince Edward Island issued only eight invitations to candidates belonging to the Express Entry and Labour Impact categories. The province made up for it on August 20, when the Prince Edward Island Provincial Nominee Program (PEI PNP) invited 305 immigration candidates from all streams. Candidates belonging to Labour Impact, Express Entry, and Business Impact categories benefitted from the draw.
During the draw, 28 invitations were given to candidates belonging to the Business Impact category. The other 277 invitations were assigned to candidates in the Express Entry and Labour Impact categories, but the PEI PNP had not provided a breakdown of the exact number of invitations issued in each.
The PEI PNP has made it clear that the candidates who received invitations in August were living and working in Prince Edward Island already. The people who filed Expression of Interest (EOI) profiles prior to June 2020 were invited.
The Express Entry Category in PEI
Express Entry handles the applications for the following economic-class immigration categories: Federal Skilled Trades Program, Canadian Experience Class, and Federal Skilled Worker Program. The PEI PNP’s Express Entry Category works alongside the Canadian government’s Express Entry system. The candidates who are eligible received a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score based on several factors. Their age, education qualifications, work experience, and language abilities are important considerations.
Express Entry candidates get an additional 600 points if they manage to secure a provincial nomination. They must create an EOI profile under the PEI PNP if they want to be considered for a provincial nomination from PEI.
