Manitoba Holds PNP Draw #219

On May 23, 2024, Manitoba issued 253 invitations in the latest round (#219) of the Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP):
– Skilled Worker in Manitoba: 121 invites (min. 782 score) under Close Relative Selection
– Skilled Workers Overseas: 39 invites (min. 688 score) under Strategic Recruitment
– International Education Stream: 93 invites

So far in 2024, Manitoba has invited 4,241 candidates through the PNP, including 573 Express Entry candidates.

Bill C-71 on Citizenship by Descent

The federal government introduced Bill C-71 to extend citizenship to children born abroad to Canadian parents beyond the first generation. Key aspects:
– Children adopted abroad by Canadian parents also covered
– Parents must have spent at least 1,095 days in Canada pre-birth/adoption
– Restores citizenship for “Lost Canadians” and descendants born abroad Temporary

Relief for Haitians in Canada

Amid the crisis in Haiti, IRCC announced support for Haitians and their families unable to return home:
– Free work/study permits or status extensions for Haitian temporary residents
– Free permits for foreign relatives who left Haiti
– 3 months of health coverage for eligible individuals 681 people, including Canadians and permanent/temporary residents, transported to safety

PEI’s $10M Affordable Housing Pilot

Prince Edward Island launched a $10M Community Housing Expansion Pilot to boost affordable rentals:
– Supports non-profit/co-op housing providers in acquisitions and new construction
– Aims to acquire 120 units in 2024-25 and enable future projects
– Partners with community sector to meet needs of low/moderate-income residents
– Aligns with provincial housing strategy for secure, affordable homes
