Episode 10 – British Columbia PNP Draws, International Students and Labor Needs, LMIA Processing Times Update

British Columbia PNP Draws
On May 14, 2024, British Columbia issued 77 invitations across various streams of the BC Provincial Nominee Program (BCPNP), including:
– 37 candidates in the general draw (minimum 107 points)
– 9 early childhood educators (minimum 90 points)
– 17 healthcare professionals (minimum 100 points)
– 9 construction workers
– 5 candidates in veterinary care
In 2024 so far, BC has invited up to 3,097 candidates through the BCPNP.
International Students and Labor Needs
Concerns arise over international students’ fields of study not aligning with Canada’s labor market demands. Most pursue business programs, while few choose healthcare, trades, or vocational studies. The Federal Government aims to limit new study permits in 2024 to address this mismatch.
BC Entrepreneur Immigration
On May 14, BC invited:
– 5 candidates (minimum 116 points) in the BCPNP Entrepreneur Stream Base Category
– Up to 5 candidates (minimum 113 points) in the Entrepreneur Immigration Regional Pilot for rural areas
30 entrepreneur candidates have been invited in BC so far in 2024.
LMIA Processing Times Update
As of May 14, 2024, ESDC updated LMIA processing times across streams, including increases for agricultural workers and permanent residence, and decreases for high and low-wage occupations. Stay tuned for more Canada immigration news!
