Express Entry and Provincial Nominee Program

The issuing of over 2,000 invitations to Express Entry candidates in just a week is an indication that the 2019 Provincial Nominee Program target is higher than usual. Recently, there has been a significant boost in the number of activities that are conducted with reference to Canada’s Express Entry provincial nominee streams. When 1,400 Express Entry candidates are invited to apply for a provincial nomination by Canadian provinces in just five days, it shows that the immigration numbers are bound to rise. The streams are meant to help Canadian provinces and territories when they are choosing candidates through the federal Express Entry system. The provinces usually look for workers who satisfy their individual labor market needs. If they are satisfied with a candidate’s skill set, they can grant them Canadian permanent residence.

Express Entry is one of the most popular ways of getting permanent residence in Canada. It provides an opportunity for skilled foreign workers who want to maximize their talent. Under the Express Entry system, provinces can take a look at candidates who are grouped under categories like Federal Skilled Worker Class, Canadian Experience Class, and Federal Skilled Trades Class. Receiving a provincial nomination as an Express Entry candidate is very helpful because the process grants an extra 600 points to the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score of the candidates. This automatically helps them secure Canadian permanent residence faster.

Over 1,400 invitations for provincial nomination applications were issued to Express Entry candidates during two draws which were held through Nova Scotia’s Labour Market Priorities Stream and Ontario’s Human Capital Priorities Stream. These are ‘passive’ nominee streams that scour the Express Entry pool looking for candidates who fit a certain profile. Some of the targeted occupations were: Administrative services managers, Corporate Sales Managers, Retail and wholesale trade managers, etc.
