Immigration Announcement
Apply for the Labour Market Impact Assessment in Canada Online.
The introduction of a new pilot project is helping Canadian employers who are in search of hiring temporary foreign workers manage their LMIA or Labour Market Impact Assessment applications via an online portal. It will improve their LIMA process.
Employers will be able to register online via a TWFP or a Temporary Foreign Worker Program. As per the government website, he will have to register for managing, accessing, conduct transactions, and also correspond with Service Canada.
They will be able to access the online portal with the same credentials they use for Job Bank for Employers. These include questionnaires that will help guide the user throughout the Assessment application and even track the progress. Apart from this, users can upload documents or any other required statements. Applicants can also go back to their application at any time and view the decision letters by Service Canada.
The New LMIA Assessment is a Welcome Move
For many years the business community of Canada has requested the Government to speed up the process of hiring foreigners. In reaction to this, one of the first changes by the Government implemented was to modernize LMIA applications in 2017. The streamlined form helped increase the use of online applications. Numerous recommendations and models were put forward by the Canadian Federation of Online Business and Canadian Chamber of Commerce.
In maximum cases, the LMIA is important when the employer hires a foreigner. Each application costs over $1000 to submit, and the fee is not refundable, even if there is a rejection. The employers have no idea of the rejection reason and therefore don’t know whether to re-apply.
Now, this is where the online portal helps. Employers will not have to wait 12 months for answers and can keep track of the applications. It helps to not only reducing time but also improve communication with the Government.
