IRCC Updates on Reduced Immigration Inventories and Backlogs

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has recently updated the data on immigration inventories and backlogs, reflecting efforts to streamline the processing of applications. The latest figures show a total of 2,220,000 applications for permanent residence, temporary residence, and citizenship approvals currently in the IRCC inventories.
According to the update, 60.4% of applications in the inventory are within the established service standards. IRCC aims to process 80% of applications within these service standards, although some complex cases may require a more comprehensive assessment.
Breaking down the backlog, 43.7% of temporary residence requests, which include applications for visiting, studying, or working in Canada, are currently exceeding the service standards. Similarly, 40.3% of permanent residency applications are in backlog. In the realm of citizenship applications, 17.1% also exceed the set service standards.
The IRCC’s commitment to reducing backlogs and improving processing times is evident in these updates. Efforts to enhance efficiency and address the complexities of certain cases continue to be a priority, aiming to meet the goal of processing 80% of applications within the expected timeframes.
These improvements in managing immigration inventories and backlogs are crucial for applicants awaiting decisions on their immigration status, and for Canada’s broader goal of maintaining an effective and responsive immigration system.
