IEC Program’s Impact in 2025
Since the start of 2025, Canada has issued 44,650 ITAs under the IEC program. The initiative is designed to provide young professionals and students from participating countries the chance to live and work in Canada temporarily, gaining international experience and contributing to the workforce.
Why IEC is a Great Opportunity
The IEC program allows young foreigners to work in Canada under three categories:
- Working Holiday – Open work permits allow employment with any employer.
- Young Professionals – Employer-specific work permits for career development.
- International Co-op (Internship) – Employer-specific work permits for students needing work placements.
Work Permit Duration Under IEC
The length of an IEC work permit varies between one to three years, depending on:
- Bilateral Agreements: Each country’s agreement with Canada sets specific work permit limits.
- Health Insurance Coverage: Permit duration aligns with the length of the participant’s health insurance at the time of activation.
Ensuring maximum insurance coverage can help participants make the most of their IEC experience in Canada.
IEC: A Pathway to Work and Travel in Canada in 2025
The International Experience Canada (IEC) program has been connecting young people with work and travel opportunities since 1956, beginning with France as its first partner. Today, more than 35 countries participate, promoting cultural exchange and economic cooperation.
Not all countries qualify, but those that do offer young individuals a unique chance to experience life in Canada while contributing to its workforce. This program benefits both participants and the Canadian economy, fostering global connections.
With nearly 5,000 new invitations issued, more young workers now have the chance to gain experience in Canada, explore new career opportunities, and contribute to the country’s economy.
The IEC program continues to play a vital role in bringing skilled young professionals to Canada. With thousands of invitations issued monthly, it remains an excellent pathway for those seeking global work experience. Aspiring candidates are encouraged to stay updated on upcoming draws and ensure their profiles remain active in the IEC pool for a chance to receive an invitation.
