Express Entry draw for Canadian permanent residence

The new Express Entry draw which was held on 29th May extended invitations to 3,350 candidates so they would apply for Canadian permanent residence. For this draw, the minimum CRS score considered was 470. CRS refers to the Comprehensive Ranking System, which assigns a score to potential candidates based on their eligibility for Canadian citizenship. The draw was the first Express Entry invitation targeted at all programs since 1st May. The number of invitations significantly increased as a result of which the candidates could get better opportunities.

When an all-programs draw is organized, it usually includes candidates from all the three economic-class immigration categories which are classified under the Express Entry system. They are the Federal Skilled Worker Class, the Canadian Experience Class, and the Federal Skilled Trades Class. The Express Entry draw that was held before this was scheduled on 15th May and it was only restricted to the candidates belonging to the Federal Skilled Trades Class.

Where were there fewer ITA’s?

That draw saw the Canadian government issuing just 500 Invitations to Apply, also known as ITAs. There was almost a month’s gap between the two all-programs draws. This could explain the high cut-off score, which was recorded on the 29th May draw. All-programs draws are organized under the Express Entry system. The Government holds these draws every two weeks. The extended time period between the draws gives the Express Entry pool more time to attract higher-scoring candidates. This leads to a rise in the cut-off score.

The Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) used a tie-break for the May 29 draw. This means All the candidates who had a CRS score of 470 or more who had submitted their profile in the Express Entry pool before May 23, 2019, at 10:18:56 UTC received an ITA. With this draw, the number of ITAs issued this year reaches 35,100.
